Community TNR PROGRAM
A service provided by Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department offers the TNR or trap-neuter-return a program dedicated to stabilize community cat populations. Through TNR feral and community cats are trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, against rabies, ear tipped to provide visual confirmation that they have been sterilized and returned to their community.
Nuisance Concerns
-
Reduction in Nuisance Behaviors: TNR helps decrease nuisance complaints by addressing behaviors like roaming, spraying of urine, and fighting among cats
-
Improved Community Relations: TNR fosters a harmonious coexistence between cats and the community, resolving conflicts and reducing cat-related calls to authorities
-
Cost-Effective Solution: TNR programs save public and private funds by eliminating continuous trapping and euthanasia efforts, making it a more efficient approach to managing cat populations
-
Health Benefits for Cats: Neutering or spaying cats through TNR reduces the risk of diseases, improves overall health, and prevents the spread of contagious diseases within cat populations
-
Behavioral Improvement: Neutered or spayed cats exhibit better behavior, reducing mating-related behaviors like yowling, fighting, and spraying
-
Wildlife Conservation: TNR indirectly benefits wildlife by reducing predation on birds and small mammals, contributing to the preservation of local ecosystems
-
Humane Approach: TNR is a humane alternative to traditional methods like euthanasia, recognizing the value of cats' lives while addressing overpopulation concerns
